SNAP E&T: More Than a Job
Overview
More Than a Job is a national campaign from USDA's SNAP Employment and Training (SNAP E&T) program, encouraging SNAP participants to discover job training and career services. The program spans 53 state and territory SNAP agencies. I re-designed the SNAP E&T website and lead creative direction for the campaign, which as of 2026 is expanding to 30 states.
The Website
The prior SNAP E&T site followed a standard federal template and wasn't built with mobile visitors in mind, despite them likely making up most of its traffic. FNS had no contracted web developer at the time, so every page had to work within the constraints of one in-house developer, using only The United States Web Design System (USWDS) components with no custom code.
I designed fully wired wireframes in Figma, using USWDS as a foundation while building custom components where the system fell short. Each round went through the agency's developer to confirm what could be built, then back through design to fit those constraints without losing the mobile-first, cohesive feel we were building toward.
The Campaign
USDA brought us on to establish the campaign's visual identity from scratch. I led that work and wrote the campaign guidelines that both the national team and individual state offices now use.
The campaign started with 10 states in 2023. I directed a team of two designers producing state-specific toolkits, PowerPoint decks, and social, print, and rack card templates, customized to each state's own branding and design capability. Some states get fully custom, ready-to-print materials; others get templates they run themselves. A new contract has expanded the program to 30 states.
The Result
The campaign started from nothing, and has now rolled out live across 10 states, with 20 more in progress, on a visual system and guidelines built to scale as it grows.
