Clean Water State Revolving Fund
Overview
The Clean Water State Revolving Fund (CWSRF) is the federal-state program that finances water infrastructure across the country, from wastewater treatment to stormwater and nonpoint source projects. Each year, EPA's Office of Water reports on what the program funded and which projects deserve national recognition.
In 2021, EPA's Office of Water hired us to vectorize the CWSRF logo, which they didn't have on file. From there, they asked us to modernize the CWSRF Annual Report, which had always been produced in-house.
The Starting Point
The logo carried a color palette the reports never followed, and a borrowed water-wave graphic that didn't match the rest of the design. Readability, color contrast, and Section 508 accessibility hadn't been considered.
The Approach
Built every publication to Section 508 standards, with checked color contrast and readable type.
Restructured the report around a key takeaway and headline figures, followed by program highlights and project case studies.
Delivered a reusable template EPA's own staff could run without us.
The Result
EPA has used the 2021 template for years with few changes, returning for six editions across three publications between 2021 and 2026.
